10 Songs to… Get Your Harry Potter on to

Are you going to see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Part One)? Are you going to a midnight release? Are you dressing up?

I’ve got my hand up for all three of those. I’ve restrung my butterbeer-cork necklace, and I’ve got my lion hat. Radish earrings are firmly in my ears. I’m all set.

But how else to get into the Harry Potter mood?

WIZARD ROCK, OF COURSE. Without further ado: 10 songs to get your Harry Potter on to.

1. “Accio Deathly Hallows” – Hank Green
Threedays before the last book was released, Hank Green sang “Accio Deathly Hallows” on YouTube for the first time. And made some off-hand predictions that actually were pretty spot on. So while “ADH” refers to the book, the fact that I need Harry Potter like a grindylow needs water still remains. And what if Voldemort DOESN’T kill Hedwig just for yucks?!

2. “‘Arry” – Advanced Potion-Making
Also known as the theme from Mugglecast, this is a variation on “Hedwig’s Theme”. But wrocking. Listen to it, and tell me you’re not keen for a bit of the old HP.

3. “Voldemort is Awesome” – Draco and the Malfoys
I had a bit of a hard time choosing WHICH DatM song to play here. They’re all Really Freaking Awesome. But “Voldemort is Awesome” is pretty fun to dance around to. Must include an air-drum solo please.

4. “The Weapon” – Harry and the Potters
Because there’s one thing that I’ve got. One thing you’ve got inside you too. One thing that we’ve got. And the one thing got is enough to save us all. To me, this song sums up the strength of the HP fandom. Love you, guys ^_^

5. “House of Awesome Theme Song” – The Whomping Willows
The House of Awesome is a place for anyone without a home, regardless of race, religion, creed, gender or sexual preference. And it’s super-dooper fun to wrock around to. Get on it.

6. “Accio Love” – Ministry of Magic ft. The Moaning Myrtles
Have a listen, and it won’t be long until you discover you love this song. Good for a sing-along. Also, just check out Ministry of Magic. In my opinion, they’re probably one of the best wizard rock bands. Just sayin’.

7. “End of an Era” – Oliver Boyd and the Remembralls
Ask any member of the Harry Potter fandom, and they’ll probably tell you that this song has made them teary (if they don’t, they’re lying). July of 2007 was a tough time for Potter fans across the globe. Exciting? Very. But also kinda scary. What if it was the end of everything we’d come to love. The fandom is a special place (and it’s never too late to join in!). THANKFULLY, it kept kicking on. I’m pretty sure you can’t kill it.

8. “Prefects are Hot” – Moaning Myrtles
Because prefects are hot. Really freaking hot. Another good sing-along. And helpful if you ever need to list prefects.

9. “To Dance Again” – from A Very Potter Musical
A tap-dancing Voldemort. Need I say more? (Also, Darren Criss!) (If, for some weird reason, you don’t want to watch through the acting, the tap-dancing begins at about 3:27)

10. “Ode to Harry” – The Switchblade Kittens / The Weird Sisters
The song that started it all, “Ode to Harry” is credited as being the First Ever Wizard Rock song! And what better way to end, than the beginning?!

Enjoy, and wrock on!

  1. But remember, “I will only truly have left this school when none here are loyal to me… Help will always be given at Hogwarts to those who ask for it.”

    It’ll never end, Allykins.

PS, pasting that just made me burst into tears. Miss you!!

  2. Love, Love, Loved it!!! I love all of these songs. Don’t know how you picked the best. But completely agree with MoM being one of the best. BTW did you know Switchblade Kittens are now doing Princess Rock? Also this is the BEST way to get pumped for Potter. These will be blaring on the way to the cinema tomorrow. May even create a new playlist for it. Have a ball tonight Luna!!! Can’t wait to see photos!
